1. TRAVEL LIGHT
Pack only what you need. Seven shirts, three pairs of pants, one skirt, one black dress, one night shirt, seven to nine pairs of underwear, seven pairs of socks, two bra’s, and your body products in travel size containers. Then I roll them up like this. When we toured through Europe we rolled all of our clothes like this minus the socks.
Then I buy Mrs Myers concentrated laundry detergent and bring a small ball jar with me full of Mrs. Myers Lavender detergent. So I can wash cloths on the road. Remember, minimalism is the way to go on tour and in life because we cant take it all with us to the grave. I know morbid right?
But seriously, everything we own we really do not own we are just borrowing it while were alive. We will one day return to the earth and so will the things we own. So think before you buy and travel through life lightly.
2. ENJOY THE VIEW + EATS
Take time to enjoy the view without your phone. Seek to be present first take it all in and later if you really want take a photo like the one we took above. Whenever your road tripping or in our case touring we love carving out time to really take breaks and stop at the scenic overlooks. It makes the long drives more enjoyable. Plus, you meet really great people and the fun quirky little villages along the way.
We also made a commitment to eat only at Mom and Pop farm to table restaurants or small farm stands. We always research the best local coffee roaster too. Some of our favorites are Intelligenstia on Broadway in Chicago, IL, Heart located in Portland, OR, Crema, Nashville,TN, Old Crown, Fort Wayne, IN, Toby’s Estate, Brooklyn, NY, Gimmie, Brooklyn, NY.
3. CREATE A SPA
We always keep our favorite essential oils in the car to keep is smelling like a wellness spa. Our favorites are bergamot, lavender, sweet peppermint, and patchouli. Plus, we carry two organic soaps in the car as natural car fresheners. They work best because after a few weeks of emitting beautiful smells you can use it up in the shower. Typically we have a lavender bar, patchouli bar, and a lemongrass bergamot bar from our own line.
4. SAFTY FIRST
Drive a car that is safe and that you love. And always use the buddy system when wondering out in new adventurous areas.
Take long walks in between long drives to keep your blood moving and circulation flowing. Your back and legs will thank you.
6. STRETCH IT OUT
Stretch your arms, neck, and legs when you get out of the car. Try taking up yoga it will help with the long drives.
7. TAKE YOUR LOVE
Go with someone you love. Then those 18 hour nights will not be painful they will actually be so fun that you will arrive at your destination and still want to talk. That is the key to knowing that you have found someone really great.
8. CHERISH YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY
Take time to cherish the friendships that you you make along the way. This is our very dear friend and now extended family Dick. This night we went over to him and his lovely wife Denise’s home and made them home made pizza. Stay in touch with those you love.
10. YUMMY SNACKS CHANGE EVERYTHING
ALWAYS, ALWAYS, AT NO MATTER WHAT CARRY WHOLESOME SNACKS. No matter what. Stay away from being Hangry (angry + hungry = hangry)
Our favorite snacks of all time are, tangerines, organic apples, almond butter, hummus, carrots, dehydrated non- fried apple chips, quinoa salads from Trader Joe’s, kale chips, sun-flower seeds, lightly dusted chocolate pumpkin seeds, cranberries, dark chocolate, peanut butter crackers, Kind bars, Lara bars, my homemade Vegan Balls. Plus, we bring our Vita-Mix Blender and make delicious Smoothies like they are going out of style.
11. SWEET MUSIC + PODCASTS = JOY
Download your favorite music and make a fun mix tape or shuffle mix. Plus, we love listening to podcasts, like the MOTH, Radio Tyler Oakley’s Phyco Babble Lab, and anything on NPR.
12. NATURAL CLOTH WIPES?
This tip might sound crazy but after we tried it it changed our lives. We carry plant based natural cloth wipes with us in the car. They really come in handy almost all the time. Say you want a snack and you spill something on your hand. Well just reach for a cloth wipe and voila your cleaner than you were five minutes before and you smell lovely too. (We also have a natural lavender hand sanitizer in the car to rid us from germs so we can stay healthy)
Drink Water (no sugary drinks, they are off limits) throughout your journey. And drink just enough so you are not stopping every fifteen minutes and take bathroom breaks accordingly don’t hold it in. That is the worst.
14. GET TONED UP + STAY SWOLE
To stay toned on tour try the seven minute workout try it I promise you wont regret it.
15. LOVE BECKONS LOVE
Spread love where ever you go. Smile, dance, sing, be joyful, and stay generous you never know when you will meet an angel. “Do not neglect hospitality, because through it some have entertained angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:2
